The 16th Annual Hilltown 6 Pottery Tour and Sale

WESTERN MASS. — Hilltown potters will open their studios to the public for the 16th Annual Hilltown 6 Pottery Tour and Sale on July 23 and 24. Visitors will meet the potters and their guest artists. There will be educational demonstrations and hands-on activities: watch a potter turn a lump of clay into a pot, climb inside a giant wood-burning kiln, see how a ceramic artist creates a pot that looks like a stone freshly pulled from the earth. The Hilltown 6 will donate a portion of its proceeds to local elementary schools for art supplies.

Hilltown 6 is a group of well-known potters based in the Hilltowns of Western Massachusetts: Robbie Heidinger, Christy Knox, Maya Machin, Michael McCarthy, Hiroshi Nakayama, Mark Shapiro, Eric Smith, Constance Talbot, and Sam Taylor. Downtown Pittsfield “Heart of the Berkshires” Photo Competition

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. is holding a photo challenge to find the photo that best captures why downtown Pittsfield is the “Heart of the Berkshires”. Entrants are encouraged to capture photos that showcase the beauty and personality of downtown Pittsfield, keeping in mind the theme “Heart of the Berkshires”. Creativity is encouraged.

The first-place winner, as determined by a panel of local judges, will have their photo featured in Pittsfield’s 2023 Downtown Guide and a Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. social marketing campaign. The first and second place winners will take home a prize package donated by local downtown businesses.

Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. will accept photo submissions through July 30, 2022. Winners will be notified by August 30, 2022. One image submission will be accepted per person, and the image must be taken in downtown Pittsfield. Entrants must fill out this Google form and email their photo to Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Tuesday, July 26 at 5 p.m. lace specialist Beverly Wolov will explore the history of lace in the lecture Lace in American Material Culture: Wealth, Refinement, Sex. This free lecture is presented by the Berkshire County Historical Society at Arrowhead, 780 Holmes Rd. Pittsfield, Mass.

Beverly E. Wolov has an M.A in the History of Decorative Arts from the Smithsonian/Corcoran College of Art and Design. Her background is in fashion history, specializing in lace and material culture. Ms. Wolov photographs and identifies lace for museums, and has worked extensively with the Smithsonian National Museum of American History and Mount Vernon, among others.

Jonah Bokaer to perform Fallen Angel

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Saturday, July 23 at 3 p.m. the Clark Art Institute will host a performance by Jacob’s Pillow alumnus Jonah Bokaer. The performance is inspired by Auguste Rodin’s sculpture Fallen Angel, presented in conjunction with the Clark’s current exhibition, Rodin in the United States: Confronting the Modern.

Bokaer began his professional dance career with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and theatre artist Robert Wilson. He brings his own perspective on the intersection of dance and the visual arts to the Clark with this bespoke performance.

The Fremonts present The Failure Cabaret 

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — On Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24 at 7 p.m. see The Failure Cabaret by The Fremonts at The Foundry in West Stockbridge.

Stephanie Dodd and Justin Badger are Great Barrington locals and perform under the name The Fremonts. Now, the Fremonts have been married for ten years and they have the therapy bills to prove it. In this dark comedy cabaret, Stephanie Dodd from Fremont, Nebraska (Shakespeare & Company, 59E59, Vocals/Accordion) and Justin Badger from Fremont, California (Hair on Broadway, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Vocals/Guitar) use original music to tell their story of meeting in New York, performing on Broadway, accidentally moving to a pretentious mountain town to do everything in their power to stay sane and married at the same time.
