Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

Bosch recently introduced the Bosch Daredevil M ultipurpose Drill Bits for drilling in masonry, brick, block, tile, metal, wood, and plastic. The bits, ranging in diameters from 1/8- to 1/2-inch, feature a tungsten carbide multi-grind head and an impact-rated hex shank that is for use in a hammer drill or impact driver.

“Whether you’re a pro or a DIYer, Bosch Daredevil multipurpose bits deliver the same advantage – one bit that can drill in a wide variety of materials. In many cases, it’s just not efficient to change bits all the time on the jobsite. With Daredevil multipurpose bits it’s not an issue – one bit does the job of several, so it saves time but it also saves the hassle of carrying around a pocketful of bits.”

Power tool manufacturers, realizing that even the best tool can have a hard time overcoming a poor accessory,  have really focused their attention on premium bits over the last few years. Although some of us have been slow to adopt, still considering a package of cheap, throwaway bits better than premium bits, many of us have been won over by the premium performance of the premium bits. The new Bosch Daredevil Multipurpose Drill Bits seem to validate that new paradigm.

The word multipurpose or hybrid often gives us pause, but in the case of drill bits, we think it’s ok. The bits just have to be tough enough for the hardest of materials, and that’s what Bosch claims these Daredevils are. The tips are ground on four surfaces to minimize skating and make clean holes in any material from masonry, brick, block, tile, and metal to wood and plastic.  The diameter range from 1/8- to 1/2-inch will be sufficient for most work – any larger and you’ll probably be using a small rotary hammer. Importantly, the flutes are fairly steep, which will help remove waste quickly and likely keep the bit sharper longer.

How much longer? Nine times – that’s right, Mr. Rooney – Bosch claims that the Bosch Daredevil Multipurpose Drill Bits have up to nine times the life of competitive bits.

Tim Johnson over at Shop Tool Review has put these through several tests for us and has a full review ready to go. Head over there to see what he thinks of Bosch Daredevil Multipurpose bits in some real-world testing.
