Our return to Middle-earth is finally upon us, as Lord of the Rings prequel The Rings of Power is officially here! The first two episodes dropped on Prime Video today (2 September), with more to come over the next six weeks.

The series has been hotly anticipated by fans, with many already looking ahead towards a season two. Still, among all the hype, viewers have been busy sharing the same complaint over the first two Rings of Power episodes online.

The prequel is set thousands of years before the original Lord of the Rings films and, as you'd expect from such a big-budget fantasy project, the scenery and special effects are expected to be epic.

However, many viewers have taken to socials to share the same complaint over the series, calling the story "dull," despite some impressive visuals.

One viewer tweeted, "The Rings of Power is pretty disappointing so far, though the second episode was much better than the first. Visually, it's amazing; the plot (?) is very dull." Another called the show's imagery "beautiful," adding, "The production values are off the scale but it looks a bit dull."

A third agreed, writing, "Rings of Power has some incredible effects and backgrounds but is sooo boring so far… Soo much talking about the same stuff."

It looks like there could still be hope ahead, though, with a fourth viewer tweeting, "The Rings of Power was cool, first ep was a bit dull but the second ep got me gripped. Excited to see more."

The Rings of Power is pretty disappointing so far, though the 2nd episode was much better than the 1st. Visually, it's amazing; the plot (?) is very dull.

Rings of power is unbelievably dull, hell the legend of the seeker had me more engaged.

Rings of Power has some incredible effects and backgrounds but is sooo boring so far… Soo much talking about the same stuff, and elves need long hair again! 60 million an episode? I don’t connect with anybody right now! I hope it gets better!

Hey, there's still lots more to come! And with episodes dropping over the next two months, there's plenty of room for opinion to change.
